    Description

US M1861 Surcingle for use with Civil War Saddles. Regulations called for a worsted wool surcingle, 3.25 inches wide, however makers provided 3 inch, 3.25 inch and 3.5 inch surcingles all of which were accepted and issued during the war. These are made from the last available run of surcingle wool from Abbey Saddlery and when these are gone there will be no more. Abbey has no plans to make surcingle wool. Many soldiers used an additional surcingle as a breast strap. The leather is quality American harness leather and the hardware is a period correct 1.5 inch roller buckle as found on the originals.
