French 18K Carved Smoky Quartz Intaglio Men's Signet Ring

Description

Very nice smoky quartz intaglio signet ring. This ring is marked with an eagle for French 18K gold. The maker's mark reads "AH" with a three armed candelabra in the center, inside a cartouche.
The band tested as 18K gold by a professional jeweler. Mount is possibly rolled gold.
There is slight wear where the band meets the mount on the interior and on the lower side of the mount (see photo). Small flaw in stone on the right side where stone meets mounting (see photo). Total weight is approximately 12 grams.
Finely carved smoky quartz stone contains an image of a Greek philosopher, likely Sophocles.
Ring size is approximately 11.5 (see image of ring on mandrel). Stone centerpiece measures 21 mm long x 19 mm wide. Mount measures 9 mm from the base of the ring.
Includes ring box from original purchase, The Waldhorn Company of New Orleans. The Waldhorn Company was established in 1881 by Moise Waldhorn, an immigrant from France. It was one of the earliest antique stores in New Orleans. They operated in the same location for more than 130 years.
